To deliver the required granular materials to the aggregate plant, the contractor has narrowed down the options into several locations, which are described in the following sections. To simply this project from actual conditions of the project, the following assumptions are made: 1. The focus of this project is limited to trench excavation, hauling and placing granular materials required (including pipe bedding), and disposing extra materials produced from the trench excavation. 2. Backfilling and compacting with select materials is responsibility of another contractor. 3. The excavation walls will be vertical and contractor will use trench boxes when workers are inside the trench (to join pipe sections together). 4. Pipe placement and joining is responsibility of another contractor. 5. We assume that identified quarry provides approximately the same type of materials as the pipeline routes indicated in Table 1. 6. The slopes along all the pipe segments are flat. 7. A dirt road in average conditions will be used to haul materials. The road construction is not part of this project. 8. Assume trench width to be Pipe Outside Diameter +48 in. 9. The trucks hauling soils from the quarry, can take spoil back to dump at the quarry. 10. Top of the pipe is 5ft from ground surface. 11. Depth of watertable is below bottom of trench. 12. There is one quarry available, as follows: This quarry is located 4.5 miles perpendicular to Center of Segment F. This distance includes 4 miles of paved road with heavy traffic and 0.5 miles of dirt road in average condition. The dirt road has a 0.5% grade down towards the project site, but the paved road is relatively flat. It is required to strip 2ft of topsoil before pit excavation for granular materials can begin. Required Equipment To haul the granular materials, you need at least (you can select your own fleet, as you find appropriate), dozers, shovels and/or loaders as well as hauling trucks. The dozers are needed to strip and stockpile the material and loaders and/or shovels to load the material into the trucks. At least one loader is needed at the trench site for stockpiling the materials. The number of trucks required is based on cycle time of loader or shovel, and the cycle time of hauling equipment. You are required to come up with your equipment selection (type and number). It is assumed that loading and dumping areas are not congested, but at the trench site, trucks must be spotted and backed to the position to dump. Assume and apply an appropriate efficiency factor to this loading and hauling operation
