Task

As you were trawling the web for pricing strategies for activity 8.2 (the scavenger hunt), you may have stumbled across something that "wasn't quite right"! Marketers sometimes cross the line, and disregard the need to be ethical and legal in their pricing strategies.

In lesson 8, we asked you to take a look at thepricing section of the ACCC's website( https://www.accc.gov.au/publications/advertising-selling/advertising-and-selling-guide/pricing) . Now that you are familiar with marketers' obligations under the Competition and Consumer Act (2010), we want you to find an example which you believe isn't 100% compliant.

Hints:

  • If you are having difficulty finding an example, then try using Google to find cases that have appeared in the media recently, and share the details of one of them with us.
  • Even if you find something that appears to be within the law, but consumers may still be misled by the pricing practice, then this could be consideredunethical, even if it's technicallylegal. You are welcome to share these examples if you wish.

Step 1

Share your example of illegal or unethical pricing here. In your answer, provide details of the "incident", and explain why you have selected it. If possible, provide specific details of what they have done wrong, with references/sources if appropriate.

Postyour response in the forum (by replying to the post below). You are welcome to upload a photo or image if appropriate.
