Task: There is a misconception about energy! Two people share their responses on how they can fix/correct the misconception! How they can person 1 & 2 responses extend to the correction of the misconception together?

Misconception:A student said,"Energy cannot be conserved/is lost during a transformation."

Person 1 (me) response: "I would respond to the misconception by explaining that energy can transform from one form to another within a system, but it is not lost. I would use an example to illustrate this, such as a person riding a bike. The person's energy is transformed from chemical energy to kinetic energy, but it is not lost. Energy can neither be created nor destroyedit can only be transformed from one form to another. The law of conservation of energy is a fundamental law of physics that states that energy cannot be created or destroyed. In other words, the total amount of energy in a closed system remains constant. This law is also known as the first law of thermodynamics. The law of conservation of energy can be applied to a wide variety of situations, including chemical reactions, and nuclear reactions."

Person 2 (someone else) response: "To help my students correct this misconception: I would first explain that amount of energy in a system (group of objects working together) NEVER changes. Then, I would explain the law of conservation of energy, stating that energy cannot be created nor destroyed, rather its converts itself into different forms of energy. Following this, I would then play the Energy, Forms of Energy, Law of Conservation of Energy video, which thoroughly explains what energy is, the different types of energy, and how these types of energy are conserved and transformed. After the video, I would ask students to work in groups, then tell me one example of energy being conserved as it transforms."
