Task:
This assignment takes the form of an email that summarizes a complex data set.
First, choose a company and retrieve their most recent 10-K from the SEC. You can access those reports at SEC.gov using the EDGAR search tool. You may use the same company as you did in your Shadow a Company assignment from BUS 2000 if you wish, but be extremely careful to create new work for this assignment and not to reuse writing from that project.
Carefully review the 10-K. While you will not read all of it, you should choose at least 3 tables or other data sets which you will use in your summary. Items and areas such as Selected Financial Data and Financial Statements and Supplementary Data are good areas to investigate.
Then, compose a concise (roughly 2-paragraph) email where you report your findings from reviewing the report and summarize the 3(or more) data sets you have chosen.
The audience for this email is your manager, who has requested that you review the report and send them a brief summary of the company, their financial picture, and their outlook.
Your email should contain the standard elements of business correspondence, so you have limited space in which to offer your summary. Remember that you are taking pieces of a larger report and condensing them in your summary.
The email should have a clear central purpose and the reader should be able to easily identify your view of the company, their financials, and their outlook.
