EFFECTIVENESS OF THE FLIPPED CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT IN TEACHING MATHEMATICS IN THE MODERN WORLD Abstract The emergence of the flipped classroom in education today is popular as it is considered effective in enhancing students' engagement, promotes both independent and collaborative learning, critical thinking and develop active learning for permanent learning . This research aimed to confirm the effectiveness of the flipped classroom environment on students' performance and engagement in mathematics as well as to investigate the effects of flipped classrooms on learners with different performance levels in learning mathematics. A pretest - posttest quasi-experimental design was employed for this study. A total of fifty(47) freshmen Pharmacy students participated in this study and divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group (26 participants) was taught Mathematics in the Modern World using the flipped classroom strategy while the control group (21 participants) was taught utilizing traditional teaching method. The students' performance was measured by validated Achievement Test. The researchers employed independent sample t-test, paired sample t-test, analysis of variance and Sheffe for multiple comparison to analyze the data obtained. Findings indicated a significant difference in the students' performance between the two groups with students performed better using the flipped classroom. The result also revealed that flipped classroom environment is more effective to high performing students than moderate to low performing students
