Thomas Grant applied for a loan at Bank of America, Wells Fargo and FifthThird Banks. Thomas's application was denied at Bank of America and Wells Fargo but finally was approved by FifthThird Bank. Thomas believes that the first two banks denied his application because of his minority status. No explanation ever was provided by the banks denying Thomas' request for funds. After obtaining the loan, Thomas soon found himself unable to make the prescribed payments. Thomas went into default, causing the bank to turn his case over to a collection agency.
