You need to do your research and know the job you are hiring for. Some people think that doing an interview is very simple when in fact, it is the opposite. An example would be when I first started at my old position as an HR Generalist. It was my first week and I had been tasked with starting to recruit. I have done many interviews previously but expressed my concern to the owner that I should shadow some of the floor staff to get a better understanding of what it is that they actually do every day because I know that the job description is only a portion of what they were doing. To be able to better hire for that job I gathered the hours, the pay, and also did my shadowing on a shift or two to be able to fully tell my potential new hires what they would be doing and to know if someone was lying to me about their skills or not.
