The 19th Century French philosopher and economist, Frederic Bastiat, was that era's equivalent of Glen Beck or Arianna Huffington in that he brought to light some of the foibles of public knowledge and government policy. Professor Walter Williams uses Bastiat's theme in a short article "The Seen and Unseen" to help us understand that the initial reaction to an event might not tell us the real story.
