(a) the strains εx, εy, and γxy for the axes shown and illustrate how a square element of material aligned with the x-y axes will deform; (b) the principal strains and show these on a orrectly oriented element; and (c) the maximum in-plane shear strain and associated average normal strain and show these on a correctly oriented element.
