The article 'Far-Reaching Consequences' focuses on protections for LGBTQ workers against discrimination based on their sexual orientation and gender identity, but the threat of sexual harassment on college campuses goes much beyond that. In my opinion, colleges first need to be open and aware of the extent of the issue on their campuses. They need to play an active role in helping to prevent sexual harassment as well as sexual assaults. There need to be programs in place where students feel safe and listened to when they report harassment. Schools also need to respond quickly and effectively when reported harassment or assault takes place. We are hearing so many instances of harassment and abuse that have gone on for decades, and schools still want to act like they had no idea. And victims of harassment and assault can be male or female.

"The most common estimate is that about one in five college women will be the victim of a sexual assault during her years in school, an estimate backed up by surveys from the U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Statistics and the Association of American Universities, among others. Estimates on male victims of sexual assault are more variable, but they range from about one in 10 to one in 20 students" (Winerman, 2018). So I guess the short answer is to just make everyone accountable and educated on what can be interpreted as sexual harassment and what the consequences will be if those types of actions are happening.
