The Bartholomew Management Company (BMC) manages the US$750 million Endowment Fund of the School of Business and Finance of St. Bartholomew (Bartholomew Business School). The Board of BMC at its meeting in September 2021 considered a report from the Chief Investment Officer, Kim Carrington, to add to its holdings of US equities. Kim has convinced the Board that any new investment should be considered into recently announced Initial Public Offerings (IPOs), and after considering the report prepared by Kim and her Investment Team, the Board agreed for Kim to submit a detailed report of the selected IPOs, for consideration at the December meeting of the Board. Professor Veronika Huebscher, Head of the Faculty of Finance, and a Director of BMC, have agreed with the recommendation of the Board to consider a detailed report on the selected IPO, but suggested that this report be prepared by the students pursuing the Masters programme in Finance at the Bartholomew Business School. The Board of BMC by resolution unanimously approved the suggestion proposed by Professor Huebscher and Kim and her team agreed to provide all the necessary support to the students Shortly after the September meeting of the Board of BMC, Kim sent a note to Veronika thanking her for the fabulous suggestion that students pursuing the Masters programme in Finance School be allowed to prepare the report on the IPO. Kim also provided a link to the filed prospectus for the recent IPO Couchbase Registration Statement. This was the IPO to be considered by the students. In addition, Kim added the following comments in the note to Veronika and asked her to share it with the students. The share price performance of firms in different sectors or industry categories shows that there are significant long-run returns to buying a growing sector and avoiding a stagnant one. Over the short term, however, a recent strong performance can change quickly. The direction of the entire economy is important for particular sectors in the short-run. Sector rotation refers to the inclusion or exclusion of firms by their industry to maximize portfolio returns. The first step in industry analysis is to assess the general health and current position of alternative sectors. Is the industry in a pioneering, expansion, stable, or declining stage of its life? Is the industry likely to make a transition from one stage to the next in the near future? How will the short-term direction of the economy affect long-term prospects? Pioneering and declining industry stages imply investment risk; the expansion stage implies a strong likelihood of capital gains. The stabilization stage is characterized by dividend rather than capital gain income for investors. It will be necessary to obtain information on economic sectors and may also be important to further break down sectors into industries. The information might help identify the sectors that are candidates for growth and those likely to have problems. The competitive conditions and economic forces at work in industry also affect sector growth prospects. Easy entry into an industry makes sustained high financial performance difficult. Profits tend to attract new competitors when barriers to entry are low. It may also be important to consider so-called end-use analysis: the identification of the sources of demand for products and the forecast of sector growth from growth of end users. In the note to Veronika, Kim adds that should the report of the students recommend that the stock of the company be added to the US stock investment portfolio of the Endowment Fund, she would be prepared to suggest an allocation of between US$3 million and US$5 million in this company to the Board of the BMC.. Required he BMC, manager of the Endowment Fund of the Bartholomew Business School, requested that a comprehensive stock valuation report be prepared on the company identified. This company was recently listed, and a copy of the Registration Document filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has been provided. As Masters Level students in the Investment Analysis Class, you are to prepare a comprehensive stock valuation report to provide a value of the chosen company. The analysis should be based on fundamental analysis, current events, industry trends, industry analysis and a recommendation as to whether an investment in the company should be made by the Endowment Fund. Based on your analysis, your expected to present a Report addressed to the Chief Investment Officer of the BMC and copied to the Head of the Faculty of Finance of no more than fifteen (15) pages (excluding appendices or exhibits) outlining whether, in your opinion, the Board of the BMC should make an investment in the selected company. Your Report should provide the basis for your recommendation see below for link to registration statement https://investors.couchbase.com/static-files/da2792d9-1995-48ae-8d55-6e1ea1218168
