The best projects for the purposes of this class will generally have the following features:

A currently available data set: you should be able to get access to all the data you need within one week, otherwise do not pick it$.$ Public data sets work well here.

Statistical test requirement: There needs to be a reasonable situation that requires a parametric or nonparametric statistical test. Step through the assumptions, validate them if necessary, then describe the result with the appropriate test statistic and p value, and what you can reasonably infer from the test.

Extensions: Your analysis cannot be something that has been done before, though you are encouraged to look at tutorials or papers and build upon what you$$ve done. Note, you will need to cite all sources of information in your report and presentation.

Exploratory data analysis: The data set should be complex enough to benefit from a characterization of the data, using both a mixture of figures and simple analyses.
