TheBhopal disaster, also referred to as theBhopal gas tragedy, was agas leakincident on the night of 2-3 December 1984 at theUnion Carbide India Limited(UCIL)pesticideplant inBhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India. It isthe world's worstindustrial disaster.Over 500,000 people were exposed tomethyl isocyanate (MIC)gas. The highly toxic substance made its way into and around the small towns located near the plant.
