The binomial distribution can be used to estimate probabilities in situations that have two possible outcomes. Although probabilities are not definite, they are better than a guess. When a definite or clear answer isn't feasible, probabilities can help us make informed decisions.

Predicting the Weather

One of the places we tend to see probability use on a regular basis is the weather channel. For this assignment, you will use the binomial distribution to make weather-related predictions, and ultimately compare two locations.

New York State:In New York State, in April, the probability of snow happening on any given day is 30% (0.3). Knowing this, use the binomial distribution formula to determine the probability of it snowing on four (4) days during a given week (7 days).

Pennsylvania:In Pennsylvania, in April, the probability of snow happening on any given day is 10% (0.1). Knowing this, use the binomial distribution (and the resources mentioned above) to determine the probability of it snowing on four (4) days during a given week (7 days).

• Present the values you assigned to the components of the equation [n, p, q, x, P(X)]
• Remember: q = p - 1
• Present the probability of snow on four days in a week for both locations.
• Compare and contrast these probabilities.
• Explain how this sort of prediction could be useful in everyday life.
