THE BUILDING
A company, MyCo, has rented a three floor office space in a commercial/industrial area measuring 132'x78'. There is
a tower on the building 50' above the ground on the roof. It is situated directly above the network closet on the topmost
floor, which is on the east (E) side of the building. It is a 35' tower, with the top of the tower measuring 85' from the
ground to the top. There is currently no infrastructure on the tower. The walls of the building are reinforced concrete
measuring 9'' thick. MyCo wishes to establish a wireless link to their remote facility with a minimum 100Mbps service,
but would like to explore faster options.
REMOTE FACILITY
Connectivity must be provided to a remote facility located 7.25 miles south-west (SW) of the main facility. The remote
facility has a tower 150' tall. There is thick forest and buildings in the path with a current maximum nominal height of
28' at a distance of 3.3 miles from the facility (there are no other obstructions of note in the line-of-site [LOS] path).
You will need to determine the height requirements of the antenna on the remote and local facility towers. It is possible
that the antennas may not be installed at the same height on both sides due to obstructions and limits on tower height.
You may choose to set different heights and then adjust the up and down-tilt angles of the antennas accordingly to
maintain the appropriate LOS point-to-point connection. The frequency/frequencies used over this link are up to you,
but remember, it will factor into your calculation, so choose carefully.
DELIVERABLES
You will need to provide
1. a drawing which includes both the building and remote site configuration, including heights, materials and all related
installation components, the FZ1 ellipse, LOS path and estimated speed of the link under likely conditions
2. a separate document with your full calculations for antenna height placement as well as any assumptions and/or
details used to make the determination
3. a document that lists the hardware components used for the installation (e.g. antennas, cables, lightning arrestors,
bridge device, ground plates, etc.)
