The Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) is responsible for the administration and processing of the greater part of intellectual property (IP) in Canada. CIPO's areas of activity include trademarks, patents, copyright, industrial designs and integrated circuit topographies. To transfer ownership of your copyright:

Select one:

a. One assigns it to another party. An assignment can last for the entire term of the copyright or for part of it.

b. One grants a licence to another party to use your work. This licence transfers ownership and the original owner relinquishes its rights.

c. One can register an assignment, licence or other document in several ways, but not online. Instead, a copy of the original agreement between parties along with a cover letter must be mailed or faxed or scanned and emailed to CIPO.

d. Is free. CIPO does not charge a fee for registering transfers of ownership.
