THE CEDARS The Cedars is a 300-room luxury seaside resort in a relatively remote area on the coast of the Adriatic Sea. It has for many years maintained the reputation of providing not only deluxe accommodations but superior services from both management and staff. The majority of the employees lived close by and has been hired in the years following World War II. These employees felt that they had been well taken care of over the years., and loyalty to the organization was very high. As a result, turnover has historically been very low, especially as compared with industry averages. In the last several years many of these long-time employees have begun to retire. The labor pool in the small town has diminished over the years as more and more people have moved to the larger cities to seek employment. As a result, retiring employees have been replaced by young men and women from the surrounding area, who often have to travel several miles to get to work.
