The company has asked you to advise the management about the packaging and labelling component for its international product soon to be launched for the international market. Discuss 6 key aspects that the international marketers of Vital Health Foods need to consider when designing packaging and labelling component products for the international market? (2 marks will be allocated for practical application of each key aspect).

Below are the 6 aspects, I need help making practical examples for Vital Health Foods:

1. The protection needed by the product in different countries of the world. A dry hot climate may require a different type of packaging than when the product is sold in a wet and humidenvironment. Another aspect that must be considered is the infrastructure available to transport the product. Rough handling, poor transport conditions and long distances may require a special type of packaging.

2. Additional to this is the time period that the product will be in transit from the manufacturer to the ultimate sale to the final customer. If the period is long then packaging needs to get more careful consideration.

3. Specific packaging requirements exist in certain countries regarding size and the recycling of the packaging. The problem of pollution is a worldwide scourge and is addressed in legislation in various countries. For example, the well known Post-It sticky notes made by 3M has done away with the back card that used to firm part of each pack of sticky notes as well as the plastic blister cover from their packaging, reducing 35 tons of waste annually.

4. cultural aspects also play a role in different countries. The choice of colors, shapes and type of material used may promote sales opportunities for the product but this will not be the case if an inappropriate choice is made. If a product's packaging is to be standardized, the worldwide recognition would be possible as in the case of Coca-Cola cans and bottles. The size of the packaging will also be influenced by the culture of the country. In some countries shopping is done on a daily basis allowing smaller packaging sizes, whereas in other countries weekly and even monthly shopping occurs, which makes larger size packaging more opportune.

Cultural differences play a role in the design of the label. Pictures and symbols used on the label can be misinterpreted by different cultures.

6. Legislation in different countries must be adhered to. Different requirements are set by different countries regarding aspects such as the country-of-origin, the weight or volume, the contents, the nutritional value in the case of food, etc. Differences also exist between countries using the metric system and the imperial system of weight and volume whilst certain countries require multilingual information an the label.
