The conversations I had with a few family members gave me true insight to bad and good compensation. One member worked at a bank for many years and went above and beyond their work title which frustrated them because other employees did not and were paid the same. The manager played a big part in compensation as they would be replaced and change the salaries. It was not pay for performance in their job because they did more than expected and did not get paid for it. They also had a conversation with their boss and it did not go well. The boss basically said "you have to do what I tell you" or leave. A bad manager can break or make a company
