The development of crime labs in the United States has been characterized by rapid growth & a lack of national and regional planning.  Discuss the reasons for this rapid growth.   In the United States Crime Laboratories are often affiliated with police departments.  Discuss the pros and cons of this connection.  This connection often means Crime Laboratories are publicly funded, should this means of funding continue or should private enterprise (for-profit) businesses be established?  Could a hybrid system exist to handle the evidentiary needs of the criminal justice system?
