The diffusion of innovation model categorizes the population into groups according to how eager they are to accept novel innovations and is used to analyze how new goods and technology are adopted. The first adopter group is categorized as innovators. This is a small number of individuals that are always looking for innovative goods and services. When looking for new and intriguing things, this group of people prefers to use internet search engines. They can accept technology that could eventually fail because of their risk tolerance. For example, people who buy newly released phones or technology and not knowing all the risks that come with it the The next stage involves early adopters and they are described as people who have more interest in the product and have more knowledge in the type of innovation. For example, if they are into photography, they will have more knowledge in the photography models than any other average individual. The next group is called early majority and they are people who are more deliberate and tend to be slower while looking at products and obtain innovation after a further look into it An example of this is people buying tesla cars once prices have decreased and more information about the car has been released instead of being someone who purchased the car right away. The next stage is late majority and it is quite similiar to early majority but are more skeptical. Despite being informed of every detail about the goods and services, this group of individuals remains resistant to change. They will not accept any modifications to the new product. They accept an innovative strategy only after the bulk of society has done so and with a great deal of skepticism. Going on with the tesla example, people in this stage would only purchase this car only if their close relatives or family members bought it to ensure the have the most trust in the car. The last stage includes laggards and they are people who are last to adopt any sort of innovation. These types of people tend to be older as they are not used to advanced technology. If there are no viable product alternatives, this specific set of people will choose alternatives. Until a replacement product becomes available and the current product is no longer produced, they will keep using the same one. An example of this is an old car that is still using gasoline compared to people buying tesla cars which are electric.
