The facility is McCormick Hockey Rink (179 Broad Avenue) in Toronto. Perform the frequency modelling for hazardous outcome sequences and risk estimation for each hazardous outcome sequence. Given Data:

Notes: Due to some recent incidents with ammonia-based refrigerants, the city has asked that the geographic risk to local houses be kept below 10-6/yr and that the risk inside the area and compressor room be kept to 10-4/year. Analyze the risk and determine controls to meet these targets. Undertake a Cost Benefit Analysis of your recommendations. You will need to estimate a cost will leave it up to you to do this (not expecting this to be an emphasis of the work, but should be in the right order of magnitude). Assume the following (cumulative) costs for human injuries: - Death: $10,000,000 - Serious Injury: $1,000,000 - Minor Injury: $50,000

Additional Information - The facility operates year round - Assume that maintenance staff do rounds in the mechanical room for 2 hrs/day, 7 days/week when in operation - Assume ventilation in the arena is 2 ACH (air changes/hr) and in mechanical room is 8 ACH - Assume the main arena is in use 8 hrs/day with an average of 100 people - Ammonia systems are closed look and so assume there is no need to add or remove any on a regular basis Design information - P & I D provided (not the actual arenas) - Address provided for looking up on Google Earth or otherwise - Check MSDS for ammonia to assess hazards
