"The Factors affecting a Decline of a Large Biscuit Factory"

A reputed company XYZ was operating a big biscuit factory. Biscuits are considered as one of

the most important snacking options in the modern society. They are seen as an important

reflection of the snacking habits of the individuals. The rise of snacking, as a result of longer

working hours and shorter lunch breaks, has boosted the appeal of snack packs and mini variants,

partly due to shifts in preferences for foods that accompany biscuits. The popularity of biscuits as

a snack is seen to have a different impact on people of different age groups and genders. Biscuits

are relatively low priced snacks, are generally used up for consumption.

Along with different varieties of biscuits the factory also produce different varieties of cookies

(sweet biscuits) such as assortment cookies, butter-based cookies, chocolate cookies, cream-

filled cookies, plain cookies, wafer cookies, artisanal cookies, egg-based cookies, and various

other categories. Demand of the products was very high and the factory has been supplying large

quantities of all kinds of biscuits and cookies in the region for a long period of time. The

products have a good penetration all over the outlets, the number of which spread across the

eight geographical divisions namely North, North east, East, South-east, South, South-west,

West and North-west to ease the distribution. Each geographical division has again five locations

for distributing the products to the local levels and each location has on an average 250

employees yielding a total of 10,000 employees.

At present, the scenario has been changed due to high competition in this business. As a result of

which, the company faces the inevitable challenge of managing their operation function, finance

and also the human resources. The demand of the workers is rising, but is in shortage. There is a

high chance of turnover and absenteeism of employees in the company. Hence manager of the

company is worried about the current situation and is interested to know the reasons behind the

absenteeism and turnover of the employees, and also keeping in view of the above mentioned

other problems, he is also interested to assess the other problems to get solution in order to

survive in the competitive market. He is also interested to study the preference levels of

customers on the basis of tastes in the market. Since most of the brands have come up with

biscuits of almost every flavor and taste, he is attempting to study the importance of taste in

studying the preference for biscuits.

The manager wishes to conduct a sample survey for assessing the factors causing the slowing

down of the organization. In order to execute well-informed business decision, managers need to

understand the work being done on the front line of the business with a special reference to the

employee's satisfaction and as well as the preference of the customers in the market, which are

essential to the success of any business. Therefore, management should actively seek to improve

these factors and uplift the company.
