The Fault tree diagram of a Personal Computer system is required given the following information below. i. Failure mode of interest is PC failure. ii. PC failure occurs if there is a Screen failure or motherboard failure or power failure iii. Screen failure occurs if Screen is broken or flex failure. Flex failure occurs if Pc falls and there is wear-and-tear. iv. Motherboard failure occurs if there is overheating or component gets destroyed. There is overheating if fan stops working and there is excessive current flow. v. Fan failure occurs if there is either mechanical or electrical failure. vi. Power failure occurs if there is a power surge and Power block fails. The probability of mechanical and electrical fault leading to fan failure are 0.15 and 0.4 respectively. The probability that the motherboard overheats due to excessive current is 0.32 and mother board fails due to component getting destroyed is 0.24. The probability that the screen is broken is 0.3. The probability that flex failure occurs due to PC falling is 0.29 and due to wear-and-tear is 0.38. The probability that there is power failure due to power surge is 0.1 and power block failure is 0.17. A. Construct the fault tree diagram of the entire system ( 5 marks) B. Calculate the probability of PC Failure (Top Event) ( 8 marks) C. Draw the equivalent reliability block diagram and calculate the overall system reliability. Hence compare your result in what is contained in B above. (5 marks) D. Given the lifetime for each component of the RBD drawn in C above, calculate the entire lifetime of the system. ( R1=9 years, R2=5 years, R3=5 years, R4=8 years, R5=15 years, R6=6 years, R7=7 years, R8=10 years, R9=12 years) (2 marks) E. Find the cut - set for the Fault tree diagram drawn in A above.( 5 marks)
