The Federal Reserve is a critical component of our economy and they are in charge of our money supply as well as our Monetary Policy. Their importance doesn't mean that they are without controversy. The Fed is typically made up of professional economists and they have clashed with many of the politicians in Washington D.C. when it comes to the economy. For this discussion we are going to look at the role of the Federal Reserve.

Part 1: Who do you think should have the larger role in determining economic policy: Economists at the Federal Reserve who are going to do what's best for the economy regardless of what is popular or politicians like the President and Congress who are more focused on the short term problems and the human element of the economy (voters)? Why?

Part 2:The videos in this discussion talk about the Federal Reserve in more detail. What is something about the Federal Reserve that you learned from watching these videos? Do you think it would be good for more people to better understand the Fed and maybe even have a louder voice in determining who ends up on the Board of Governors or is it best that the experts at the Fed can work behind the curtain and guide the economy without being interrupted by the public?
