the following scenario:

An individual named Julia was traveling at a high rate of speed (more than 20 mph over the posted speed limit) while driving a car on the interstate leaving the downtown area of a heavily populated city in Virginia. While driving, she was observed swerving and changing lanes without using an indicator. The police were able to stop Julia after she attempted to elude them during an approximately two-mile pursuit.

During the stop, police determined that Julia is driving on an expired Virginia license. Additionally, record checks in NCIC reveal that there is an outstanding arrest warrant charging Julia with felonious assault that was issued two months ago from Fairfax County, Virginia. Julia also has a prior Virginia felony drug trafficking conviction. Julia already served her three-year sentence for the drug trafficking offense and was released from prison two years ago. The police arrest Julia on the outstanding felonious assault warrant.

The police call for a nearby canine unit (trained to alert on cocaine), and it arrives shortly thereafter. The canine handler walks the drug dog around the vehicle and it alerts on the passenger compartment of the vehicle. Julia refuses consent for the police to search her vehicle but they do so anyway under the "motor vehicle exception." A thorough search of the vehicle reveals a hidden compartment on the passenger side door containing two kilos of suspected crack cocaine. The suspected narcotics are field tested and are positive for cocaine. Additionally, police discover a loaded handgun in the glove compartment of the vehicle.

During the search of the vehicle, police find a large sum of U.S. currency in a suitcase in the trunk, as well as a backpack containing a rare stamp collection and a diamond necklace that match the description of property stolen from a residence the previous evening. Also, a search of Julia's purse reveals a credit card bearing another person's name and a receipt showing a cash withdrawal using the card earlier in the day.

The police read Julia her Miranda Warnings and then obtain a verbal admission from her that she took the items from the residence while the home owners were away from the home. She also admits that she obtained the credit card after stealing the victim's identifying information (Social Security number, date of birth, etc.) from the internet. When police ask Julia about the cocaine, money and weapon found in the vehicle, she stops answering and requests an attorney.

The lead police officer is now calling you for advice on the various charges that can be placed against Julia in addition to the outstanding arrest warrant for felonious assault. You are the Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney for this Virginia city and will be responsible for any future prosecution in this matter.
