The following table gives the sums of squares (SS) from an analysis of variance of a random-breeding population of pigs. The trait was the feet efficiency (gain per unit of feet consumed). There were 30 sires each mated to 5 dams. Each female pig produced 8 offspring. The feet efficiency of each progeny was recorded and the data were subject to an analysis of variance for estimating the narrow sense heritability of feet efficiency.
