The goal of this experiment was to calculate the efficiency of a human being while doing work, namely stepping up on a stool while varying the mass of the subject. One of the principles that was used in the creation of this experiment was that efficiency is the calculation of work output over the amount of work input. In this situation the work output would be the exercise method that was decided upon by the group. The group decided on an experiment that involved the legs because human legs contain some of the largest muscles in the body (Bader). In order to calculate the work input, the group measured the ventilation levels of the subject throughout the experiment. The ventilation levels of the subject were measured using the Biopac system.
