The government conducts juvenile programs to end recidivism, affecting the community and individuals. The main purpose of the camps is to ensure corrective facilities are available for offenders to rectify their bad traits and live a positive life within the community. After being released back into the community, juveniles encounter major shocks that might affect or expose them to a new environment. Surveillance and guidance are ensured as they are free within the community to ensure a successful integration. They face difficulty merging with their fellow agemates and catching up with them regarding education. Others barely accept juvenile offenders within the community and hence tend to be isolated (Reentry | Youth.gov, n.d.). One getting used to others and then suddenly facing rejection results in a shock from the offender.
From the isolation, condemnation, and abuse from the existing community members, the juveniles tend to undergo stigmatization and fear. The offender may feel inferior towards themselves as they have no social power and the usual ability to interact with other members freely (Reentry | Youth.gov, n.d.). The shock creates fear and the belief of being unable to empower themselves. The community and family tend to be hostile against the juveniles trying to retract their ways and join the community. Having the background of facing charges, they are more likely to miss out on being selected for job opportunities and communal gatherings. With negligence and discrimination, they are more likely to return to their old ways to survive and show antisocial characteristics that can harm other community members.
