The hectic run-up to Christmas is over, and Julekos AS has now produced all the goods they need to meet the high demand in December. We still take the demand given in exercise 2 as our starting point, and still concentrate on rice cream as the only product. In this task, you are asked to look at how the rice cream can be distributed to the five major customer groups that Julekos AS supplies to.

The structure of the distribution network is given in the figure below, and can be described as follows:

All products are shipped from the factory in node 1. There are two intermediate stores (ML1 and ML2) in nodes 2 and 3, which can be used for temporary storage before further distribution. These have no upper storage capacity. There are five customer groups (nodes 4-8), each of which has its own individual demand which together make up the total demand for rice cream of 73,000 units during December. It is possible to distribute to all customer groups from each of the two intermediate warehouses, and each of these arcs has an upper limit for flow of 18,000 units. It is also possible to send goods directly from the factory to main customer 3 (i.e. node 6), but a maximum of 7,000 units along this arc! Some internal distribution between customers is also possible: Between node 5 and 6, and between node 6 and 7, up to 4,000 units can be sent (transport both ways is possible!) The various steps in the supply chain have different transport costs (per unit), this is specified in the attached raw data file together with parts of the other input. (8p) Carefully study the information and network illustration given above and set up a network model that ensures that demand is met at all customers at the lowest possible cost. All possible arcs are listed in the attached raw data file!
