The hospitality business is facing a lot of challenges nowadays. At first, COVID-19 shook businesses' finances and many venues had to close their doors. After the pandemic, inflation is rising costs, especially in energy and supplies, and decreasing revenue. However, the biggest challenge in the industry is the persistent and sometimes critical labour shortages. American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) conducted a survey with over 500 hoteliers in May 2022 and found that nearly all the survey respondents (97%) experienced staffing shortages, while almost half (49%) experienced severe staffing shortages (Heflin, 2022). However, finding the right person is only one of the steps. Retaining these professionals in the company is also problematic since they need to feel satisfied and motivated at work. Motivating employees is the motto in many businesses because it leads to increased performance and quality of life. Motivated employees achieve all the set targets, actualize organizational objectives, create a better work environment, and in most situations, meet project deadlines. As a newly hired HR Manager in an independent hotel business in a medium-sized town in the Netherlands, you are tasked to design policies that will help to find and motivate employees post-covid-19 era. Based on the theories and methods discussed during the module, you are required to identify, and discuss: 1) Strategies to recruit the best candidates for the company. 2) Three possible motivational methods you will introduce and discuss their benefits to the employees and employer. 3) Benefit of workplace diversity and how a manager can motivate a diverse workforce; and 4) The management team is planning to introduce a salary freeze because of worldwide rising inflation. Discuss the downside of this move, how it can affect business productivity, and provide an alternative approach.
