The Improve Phase

One of the improvements that could lead to a reduction of waiting time is the increase of service capacity.

This can be achieved by:

• Reducing overall service time
• Adding open check-in desks during busy time periods

The value stream mapping workshop that you coordinated with the participation of a select number of associates involved in the check-in process at the Port of Miami resulted in a possible reduction of the time required to process a passenger from 2.49 minutes in average to 1.47 minutes. This improvement may be achieved by implementing a pre-registration step that passengers can complete in the companys webpage, before they arrive at the port or in the terminals lobby, using specially designed pre-check kiosks.

To encourage pre-checking, the proposal presented by the team calls for the award of a special onboard dinner invitation to pre-registered passengers.

Deliverables

You are to draft a Progress Report to be discussed with Mr. Duran covering the work done in this project thus far. See guidelines for this report in the Course Case Study Section.

You are to prepare a working schedule for passenger service associates to ensure groups arriving for check-in are processed as fast as possible.

Prepare a short report for Mr. Duran with a proposed work schedule for passenger services agents for the four-hour period of a typical boarding process.

Include your calculations through excel

• Use the information below to calculate the resources needed for every five-minute segment.
• Calculate the current utilization factor for each five-minute segment.
• Propose an alternative assignment schedule to improve overall operational efficiency.
