The initial trial of plastic cups didn't go over well. But the use of glass cups and stronger utensils helped with the differential in hearing the sound waves. My son was able to hear the difference that sounds made. When there was more water the sound were a higher louder sound while when the cups were filled lower the sound was a lower pitch
