The local hospital has started a COVID vaccination clinic in an unused area of their facility. Because they anticipate substantial demand, they would like to make sure that they have enough capacity to meet it. The process is as follows. Upon arrival, a patient is greeted by a navigator who verifies verbally with the patient that she is coming for a COVID vaccination shot, and directs her to the check-in area. The patient visits one of three receptionists at the check-in area. After verifying the name and date of birth of the patient, the receptionist asks the patient a few questions and requests that they sign a consent form. Once this is completed, the patient approaches one of 5 nurse stations. The nurse asks several medical questions, in particular about any history of allergic reactions, and answers any questions the patient may have. They then administer the shot, after which the patient is required to sit in a waiting area for 15 minutes before leaving the vaccination site. The waiting area is flexible, so that if more space is needed patients can spillover into the hallway. The following table summarizes the various resources and average processing times per patient: 2 Resources Navigator Receptionists Nurse Waiting Area Process Staffing (# of workers) Processing time (minutes per patient) Greeting 1 0.5 DataEntry 3 2 Vaccination 5 6 Post-Shot - 15
