The more realistic points in the movie could in fact happen, in a long period of time. An abrupt climate change or (\"great ocean current circulation which is driven by differences in temperature and salinity, were to shut down because of an influx of freshwater, which could occur if global warming caused a melting of Arctic ice sheets\"). is very possible in real life because in fact the earth is beginning to warm up and we are emitting fossil fuels and carbon dioxide into the atmosphere which is causing the global warming. Now in the movie they show places where disasters could never occur like a hurricane over Scotland, because hurricanes usually occur over water and not land. There are also typhoons in Australia in the movie, which is unliker but not impossible. The movie explains that there has been an increase in fresh water due to the melting ice caps which causes the ocean to reach a desalinization point
