The most obvious cost of globalization is the loss of jobs in the United States due to outsourcing and the influx of foreign workers. The outsourcing of labor to developing countries such as India and China has resulted in a reduction of jobs in the United States. Furthermore, foreign workers, who are generally willing to work for lower wages, have put pressure on American wages and have led to displacement of some American workers. For example, according to the Economic Policy Institute, "Over the past 15 years, the number of U.S. apparel jobs has been cut nearly in half, from 900,000 in 1997 to 500,000 in 2013." This has had a devastating effect on the affected workers and their families, and has resulted in a decrease in wages and an increase in inequality in the United States
