The National Basketball Association (NBA) was formed in 1946 with 11 teams. Today, there are 30 NBA teams (29 in the United States and one in Canada) that are divided into the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference. Most of the teams are located in the eastern half of the country, reflecting the population distribution of the United States. New York City is made up of five boroughs: Brooklyn, Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. Two of the boroughs are home to NBA teams: the Brooklyn Nets and the New York Knicks, who play in Manhattan. When both teams are struggling to earn wins, they also fight for fans and battle to win the hearts of New Yorkers. Both teams want to increase their attendance records.
