The key point to understand regarding this process group is that it doesn't just happen when the Executing phase of the process starts. Monitoring and Controlling starts as soon as the project starts. What this means is like Risk Management where you conduct risk management on a constant basis, you Monitor and Control your project as well. What we mean by monitor is just what it sounds like. You are monitoring your project reviewing what is working well and what isn't and then controlling those activities that need to be controlled to prevent them from altering the process and masking sure those things that are going well stay in control and don't increase the amount of fixing that happens during the course of a project.
