The Nigerian Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is the electoral umpire that manages elections in Nigeria. The institution has been accused severally of compromising the wish of the people and manipulating election results in Nigeria. Since 1999, Nigerian people have believed that INEC has never given them a free, fair, and credible election, hence there has been a record of leadership failure in the country for over two decades now. The umpire conducts and collects election results manually, and the electorate have always complained that there is a huge election fraud going on due to this manual accreditation, collation and collection of votes.

Due to the incessant protest by the Nigerian public against the current electoral system, a bill has now been passed by the National Assembly comprising of the Senate and the Federal House of Representatives to implement an electronic voting system to address the issue of electoral malpractice in the country. This bill has now been signed into law by the country's President.

In line with the new law, the country has now decided to introduce an electronic voting system which will run as a web application. The populace will be able to use this system to securely cast their votes from the comfort of their own homes, and the system will record their votes instantly on the central system and display the election results to the public in real time. The system will require the voter's registration number, name and date of birth to accredit and validate a voter before they can vote from the system. Voters will need to create an account to use the new system. The system will also send an automated email to every voter once their votes have been received on the system. In addition, the system will also notify the voters on their home page about the election results from the votes going on in different locations of the country on election days. The system will be highly secure that it is expected to be impossible for it to be compromised by hackers using any form of cyber and information security attacks. Therefore the system is expected to guarantee absolute security of voter information and maintain integrity of election results at all times.

Periodically, IT professionals, independent auditors, and international observers will be able to use the system to monitor election progress, and perform routine inspections and maintenance on the new technology.
