The objective of the New Start Tradesman Program is to offer a basic level of training in a variety of trades to ex-convicts and recently released inmates. The project will be sponsored by a number of independent contractors and classes will be held by experienced employees from the contracting companies. The training classes will be held in either local high schools or community centers during weekday afternoons and evenings. The primary goal of this project is to reduce the recidivism of ex-convicts by giving them the opportunity to quickly develop skills in which they can use to quickly become devoted to an honest, promising career with many opportunities without having to start at the bottom as underpaid laborers.
