The Pearson correlation has a value range of -1.00 and 1.00 (Lind et al., 2021). The calculation measures the strength of a correlation between 2 variables, looking more at association (Lind et al., 2021). Spearman's correlation for ranked data allows us to describe the relationship between sets of ranked data (Lind et al., 2021). Spearman's approach is appropriate when the relationship between the variables is not linear or when one or more of the data points are quite different from the others (Lind et al., 2021). Both of these conditions are not appropriate for Pearson correlation.
