The pipe is 36" in diameter of RCP or reinforced concrete pipe, Class III. The trench bottom will be compacted and bedding placed down before hoisting the pipe sections (8') into the trench and placed at the end of the previous section. The pipe is B wall thickness and weighs 524 lbs per linear foot. Once 32 feet of pipe is set, the trench will be covered using a Case 850 LGP dozer. When the project progresses to where the pipe will cross the state roadway, the plan is to cut the pavement, trench half way across, install pipe section, cover back the installed section, fill the depression with large gravel, open the lane, then repeat for the other half of the roadway. Of course a workzone safety plan will be prepared and a one lane two way taper with temporary red light traffic signals at either end. How might you protect workers from traffic while compacting the bedding materials and guiding the pipe in place? Cones or barrels that taper traffic to the proper lane Placement of concrete barrier to either side and end of trench at an adequate distance Placement of heavy equipment and company trucks on road
