The police have arrested Eddie as a suspect in a series of rapes the police have been investigating. Eddie matches the description given by two of the rape victims. Eddie called his attorney when he was arrested and has called him again to advise him of the lineup. Why is a suspect not entitled to a lawyer during a police lineup prior to the filing of formal charges and yet is entitled to the Miranda warnings immediately upon arrest even if he or she is still out in the streets?
