Lastly, there are Intermediary devices that transfer messages over the network and facilitate communication between end devices. What is a switch? A switch is a device with physical ports to which end devices can be connected via ethernet cables to create a network. The three types of switches are Hub, layer $2$ switch and layer $3$ switch. A Hub switch repeats signals on all of its ports making it available to all connected devices. Saltwater family medicine clinic more than likely has a hub switch but they will have to change switches for a expanded network to function because it is pretty old.
