The role of a program manager is very demanding. Managing different people of various backgrounds and cultures, there is bound to be conflict among the team. The anticipated conflicts may arise due to "lack of clarity with expectations or guidelines, poor communication, lack of clear jurisdiction, personality differences, conflicts of interest, and changes within the organization" (Overton, 2013) These behaviors include bullying, limitingor not sharing information amongteammembers, and at worse verbal or physical abuse. In the health care setting that I anticipate to work in the most prominent kind of conflict that may arise would be limiting information or not sharing information. This could be because of team members not understanding their role and wanting to outperform each other.
The specific impact of differing roles would include miscommunication, lack of appreciation and possible conflict of interest. A potential organizational solution is proving training, specifically cross-functional training. This would help with team building. as a it fosters a sense of unity among the team. The cross functional training would greatly improve communication among team members. With a more comprehensive understanding of different roles, communication barriers are reduced. And lastlythere will be an enhancedunderstanding among teammembers as team members gain insights into each other's daily tasks, pressures, and goals, fostering empathy.Addressing incivility arising from differing roles requires a multifaceted approach.Cross-training, open communication, and conflict-resolution programs can work synergistically to create a more respectful and harmonious work environment.
