The rubular rod of 250mm length is fixed to the wall at one end and supports a vertical downward force F through a perpendicular arm of length a 200mm tightly connected to the rod. The notch radius at the wall is 5mm where the stress concentration factors measure kt=1.7 and k4=1.35, The effect of transverne stiear foree is negligible. Part A: Rod under static loading ( 25 points). In this part, the outer and inner diameters of the rod are 40mm and 30mm respectively while F=1 kN. Determine the normal and shear stresses at A and B and deduce the critical point among them and then seleet a suitable steel material for a design factor of safety of 2.5 according to DE criterion. Pert B: Rod under favigue loading (45 points). In this part the outer diameter is 60mm while the inner diameter is variable. The material becomes AISI 1018 Hot Rolled steel and the force fluctuates sinusoidally between 1kN and 5kN. a) Determine the fatigue stress concentration factors. ( 6 points) b) Calculate the endurance limit. ( 8 points) c) Compute the Von Mises stresses for midrange and altemating components in terms of the second moment of inertia / of the cross section. (16 points) d) Evaluate the inner diameter according to the modified Goodman criterion for an infinite life fatigue factor of safety of 2 and find then the Langer factor of safety. Conclude. (15 points) Prablem 2: (30 paints). Consider the overhang beam below cantilevered at A and simply supported at B. The flexural rigidity E.1 is conatant. a) Compute the reactions at the supports using the method of superposition. (15 points) b) Calculate the deflection at C using the theorem of Castigliano. (15 points)
