The schematic diagram of a double-flash geothermal power plant with state numbers is given in the Figure below. Geothermal resource exists as saturated liquid at 200 C. The geothermal liquid is withdrawn from the production well at a rate of 200 kg/s and is flashed to a pressure of 500 kPa by an essentially isentropic flashing process where the resulting vapor is separated from the liquid in a first separator and directed to the high-pressure turbine. The liquid water coming out of the first separator is routed through another flash chamber maintained at 150 kPa, and the steam produced is directed to a lower pressure stage of the same turbine. Both streams of steam leave the turbine at the same state of 10 kPa and enter the condenser where it is condensed and routed to a rejection. If the isentropic efficiencies of high- and low-pressure turbine sections are 80%, Determine: a. The mass flow rate of steam through the turbine (m3 and m10) b. The actual power generated by the turbine c. The thermal efficiency of the plant. d. The output energy from the plant Flash Chamber I Production 1 3 X1 Seperator I HPT 2 1-X1 Flash Chamber II 6 O-FWH 8 10 11 Reinjection X2(1-x1) Separator || 4 LPT Condenser 7 6 12 Water heating 13
