Petersburg has a smoking rate of 23%, while the state of Virginia has a rate of 14% (University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, 2023). One primary prevention strategy that can be used here is internet-based smoking cessation tools. Internet-based learning materials or programs can help patients find the motivation and strategies needed to quit smoking (Attia et al., 2019). The targeted area for this can be the entire city by posting information or ads in businesses, workplaces, restaurants, and doctor's offices. Nurses can help educate patients on how to use the websites or navigate the programs and create informative flyers or pamphlets to be posted around town
