THE SETTING:

You and the other members of your group are the only survivors of a plane crash. Your location is a remote island in the middle of the ocean. The island is relatively small and is uninhabited. The only items you were able to rescue from the plane before it sank were:

• two cases of water (70 500-ml bottles per case)
• a first aid kit
• a box of matches (250 wooden safety matches)
• 5 chocolate bars
• 24 snack-size bags of peanuts
• 2 plates
• 3 cups
• a small stainless steel pot
• 4 table knives
• 2 table forks

YOUR TASK:

1. you must decide how you will survive until you are rescued. The rescue could take several weeks. You must decide on rules dealing with:
   1. the rationing of food and water,
   2. providing shelter,
   3. safety for the group, how to make contact with rescuers,
   4. and any other issues that you feel need to be looked after.

In fact, you will be drafting a "Survivor Island Legal Code" that will be used to govern your "society" until you are rescued (that isifyou are rescued).

1. In addition to the questions raised in the preceding section you will need to consider these questions:

• Who will be in charge? How will the leader be chosen?
• What are the actions that the group will take to survive? What will be the order of completing these tasks?
• How will the rules be enforced?
• What happens if someone violates one of the rules? Who will determine the punishment?
