The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) list the following areas in its code of ethics: professional responsibility, professional development, ethical leadership, fairness and justice, conflicts of interest, and use of information. To me, the concept of professional responsibility includes many different things. First and foremost, it means taking accountability for my own actions and decisions, admitting my mistakes, and correcting them going forward - no one is perfect, but we must be able to see our own flaws and have to the desire and tact to correct them. In addition to this, it also means being a positive professional influence. For example, this could be informing managers of proper interviewing procedures as well as how to appropriately and fairly handle difficult situations. It is also being a resource to them to ensure that both the company and the employee are protected and receive the respect necessary to be mutually successful. Professional responsibility also refers to the way in which an HR professional presents themselves to the public as it relates to the company.
